Former Cornwall
Priest Extradited Back To U-S On Sex Charges (February 17, 2005)
Father Paul
Desilets, a priest who, in the late 1960's taught at Cornwall's Classical
College, is being sent back to the US
to face charges of sexual abuse. The Quebec Court of Appeal has upheld Federal
Justice Minister Irwin Cotler's decision last may to extradite him. The charges
against the 81 year old Desilets were filed in January 2002. Eighteen men accuse
the priest of abuse - they were choir boys at a church in Bellingham,
Massachusetts. The charges are in connection with alleged incidents that
occurred at that church between 1978 and 1984. Desilets moved back to Canada in
1984 and lived at a retirement home for the clergy in Joliette, Quebec. He was
arrested in October 2002.
